Mos smiled and shrugged. "If you wanna call it home." The Future Boys didn't exactly have a 'home'. They moved from town to town, staying at hotels or anyone who would house them for some gil. Mos's house was deteriorating from bugs eating at the burnt wood and he was too busy to work at his boss's shop to get it fixed.
He stepped off the train and looked at the night sky. The moon was shinning here and he felt a bit better. He looked at the building where Momma Lance was and walked towards it. He opened the door slowly, seeing the old woman at her desk sleeping. A soft tap on the desk woke her right up.
"HUH!? WHAT!?" She blinked as she put on her glasses and looked up at the tall mutant. Even she knew that the mutant story was a bit surreal, even before the children were found. She looked up and down him a bit and frowned. "Well... where's the bag with a child and the pictures?"
Mos pointed at Reshi and Amber who was coming through the door. "Reshi has the pictures and we happened to find a live one."
"A LIVE ONE!?" The woman exclaimed as she stood... even if one couldn't tell from her being so short. She walked around the desk to look at the boy who was in Amber's arms.

Amber stood tiredly, yawning herself. To her a home was where she slept and ate. she hadn;t the emotional tyes to areas like humans did. she could move and adapt at will if need be.
She and Reshi followed after their leader and friend, Amber cradling the boy close. Reshi just stumbled around tiredly. Today had been... too long. A train ride to killing people to shutting off cameras, to getting substantially very horny several times in the course of one day, to climbing through vents... then that horrrible smell, finding those children, losing his lunch, meeting... Shiro... jumping out a window, having to run from a BUILDING collasping, nearly getting run over by a TRAIN, getting substantially very horny several times in the course of one day chasing ANOTHER ONE, and finding out your two only friends are real animals in disguise - as well as becoming a father.
Yeah... LONG DAY didn;t evem begin to cover it.
The two stumbled into the room just as Mos awoke Momma Lance.
Reshi nodded in affirmative at Mos' statement. yeah... they had pictures.
However, as Momma Lance approached Amber, the female vixen's ears flicked back and her eyes narrowed, taking a few few steps back. she looked like she was on the defensive - not an uncommon thing for protective mothers.
However suspicion couldn;t help but rise to the surface of her mind. Why... would this person WANT a dead child? And.. and Sicne she had a sneaking suspicion this woman had also known they were Jakku... why would she want them?! To study them instead!
She held Shiro closer, growling then.
"Amber..." Reshi tried to calm the fox. she didn;t look too happy.

The woman stopped as she heard the growl. It seemed like the fox was attached to the boy already... They wouldn't be able to operate on him then...
Mos reached into his jacket and pulled out the file and camera, handing it to the woman. She took it and handed it to a large, body-guard looking man who was as stiff as a statue. "Develop these right away." She said. The man bowed and quickly left the room.
The male looked over at Amber and smiled tiredly. "Sweetheart, let Momma Lance just take a look at him. She might be able to tell us somethings about the boy." Momma Lance was gentle when it came to live things and was very knowledgeable about Mako, the Lifestream and ShinRa's underground works.

"No." she growled to Mos, glaring at the elder woman. "Why did you request a child from their? a dead one? one with ears! what purpose could it have for you!" she growled.
Reshi blinked, then paused to think about it. why DID Momma Lance want a dead child? it wasn;t really in his nature for the worker to question the boss but... Well this did seem a tad strange.
But it was hard to imagine the elder woman to be anything other then sweet and caring. she would never do anything maliciously, not like ShinRa did.
....Right?

The old woman was drawn back from the demanding questions. Unlike Mos and Reshi who were good boys and did their job, this girl seemed not to know her limit. She frowned as she looked up at the vixen but smiled.
"I'm a tad curios myself. The creatures that ShinRa had been testing are of the rumors that Hojo had pressed... however, I have no idea where ShinRa had been able to get his hands on these children." She looked at the boy and frowned. It wasn't the kind of child she had been hoping to get.
"I wanted to test a body... to see exactly what ShinRa is trying to do or figure out. Since the children are already dead, all they can do now is help the others by me finding what I'm looking for. If I get enough proof about ShinRa's horrible deeds on these children, I can bring it to the public and hope that these test will stop."
Mos nodded softly. He never questioned Momma Lance... because she wasn't out to do any harm. He could understand her quest. He looked at Amber, hoping she would understand.

"You have pictures. it is all the proof you need." Amber snapped angrily. She looked between Mos and Reshi. neither of them were going to back her up, neither of them understood!
How was she meant to trust this woman? How was she meant to trust most humans that would sooner trap her in a snare or shoot her down... how was she supposed to believe ANYTHING after what they had seen back there? "curiosity killed the cat." she said simply - it was a recent little saying Reshi had once said as a joke. Now sheld never found it more true.
"And Shiro requires food... not study."
Reshi sighed, looking at Mos and shrugging she WAS a female fox, and a mother now. who could honestly blame the half-animal for her protectiveness? It;s just what came to animals naturally.

The woman frowned but sighed. "I just wanted to look at him for a second.... but alright." She walked back to the desk and looked through a file. "I will see how well I can figure out something from the pictures... so I hope you took good ones."
Mos frowned a bit as he glanced at Amber then Reshi. "The room was horrible to even be in... we just quickly took some photos.... but they should all be in your standard."
"I hope so too..." The woman glared. "I might just have to send you back."
"Afraid you can't." Mos said plainly.
"And why is that?" The woman snapped.
"The children have been burned. SOLDIERS blew up the factory... I'm sure it will be on the news tomorrow."
The woman blinked. Blew up the factory? A frown ran across her face as she shook her head. "And all you could bring back was a living human boy who I can't even look at for a second? Do you really expect money for this mission?"
"Momma Lance!"
"Alright, alright. I've been thinking about this for awhile now so I guess this would be a good time. I was thinking about building your group a hideout house. You can pick whatever town or region you'd like it to be in. All..... four of you can live there. Free of charge."
Mos blinked and smiled happily.
"AND... I guess I can reward you 1,000 gil for each person you killed. How many would that be?"
Mos thought. "Well, there was the guard at the station, the psycho guard with the bomb. Three guards who attacked Reshi, six guards that attacked me and Amber... then there were the five that were guarding the door." He counted that in his head and used his fingers. "So that's 16,000 gil!"
She nodded as she wrote that down. "Alright... now.... where would you like to live?"
That was quite a big question....

Amber nuzzled her boy, feeling better now that the other woman was away from her. She listened to the conversation idly, glaring a bit when the idea of not being paid was brought up. they risked their lives up there, even as a joke that was not funny.
Reshi sighed, just crossing his arms as Mos and Momma Lance traded off information. Hey he took good pictures, no matter how disgusting they had been!!
He smiled. they were going to get a real home? and 16,000 gil?! That sounded pretty decent.
When the subject of where to live came up, Reshi tilted his head. "I can deal with anything but Junon or Midgar." god he hated both places to death. "Corel's not very nice either." he glanced between Amber and Mos. they were red foxes... it wouldn't do well to put them near heat and water or in the cold would it? So Icicle Inn and Costa were out. Fort Condor nor Cosmo Canyon would let them in. Wutai would probably throw them out too since they weren't of their descent.
"We could go to Nibelheim...?" Or somewhere with a forest - he couldn;t help but think. But that would probably mean... "or back to Gongaga."

"Ugh.... Not Gongaga~" Mos pouted and whined. THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO THERE! Plus, he wouldn't want to bore the child to death even more than he was being blind. Costa was too hot. Icicle Inn wouldn't be too bad since they had thick fur... but Shiro was too weak to last in the cold weather most likely.
NO one wanted to live in Midgar or Corel. Those dumps... He thought a bit. Nibelheim was where the factory was... There was always Kalm. He frowned as he looked at Amber. She had gone to all these places...
"Amber... where do YOU want to raise Shiro?"

Reshi just crossed his arms. well he had tried. He just didn't want to go back to Junon, other then that he was alright.
Amber's ears lowered in thought. One of her favorite places had been the one in the canyons... but she knew it was not an option. Mos and Reshi had informed her that they did not welcome strangers. The snowy continent was nice but... too cold for her child to survive in.
The seaside town and the one with the reactors were of course to polluted. She wanted to pick a clean area. The mining town was too run down and the amusement park wasn;t a home. The beaches offered too much warmth... it dried up her nose.
There was that little place nearby the big city, but it was so close to ShinRa that if word got out about two fox-like 'humans' living there it wouldn't take long for the soldiers to come looking for them. They already knew of her kind, it wouldn;t be a secret of what they were for long...
The town with the conder was out as well as the one with the tower. She liked the one with the rocket but ShinRa visited too often to that area because of the... program to the sky or something like that.
She wanted to live by a forest at the very least. There was a great abundance of those all around.
Her mind came up with a picture of a town surronded at ever side by forest, with a quaint little hospital and sweet people, a few chickens here and there...
"What about... the one on the little island?" she paused, trying to think up the name. "The one with the dogs and chickens? with all the forest?"
"Mideel?" Reshi offered, autotmatically remembering their quick trip to that land. It hadn;t been much of a mission, they were just to inspect if ShinRa had left their mark or not.
They hadn't found much.

Mos blinked and smiled softly. Yea, Mideel seemed like a nice place. Boring too... but maybe he NEEDED boring after a mission... though, he doesn't it. It wasn't about him though... it was the safety of an ex-test subject. Shiro would be more than safe there. They all would. And even if Shiro became ill (though his doubted it if he was the only surviver in the room) the hospital was the best in the world.
He looked at Momma Lance and smiled. "We'll live in Mideel."
The old woman nodded as she wrote some stuff down. "A house will be built in Mideel and a large pile of money will await you there. I guess you may spend the rest of the time in the hotel... and do go off on any other adventures till then."
She opened a drawer and handed Mos a pouch. "There is 1,000 gil for now. Go feed the child and get him some warm clothes. Mideel is quite chilly during winter.
Mos smiled and nodded, thanking her and shoving the pouch into his pocket. What are they going to dowith 16,000 gil?? He could buy a new jacket! He walked out of the room followed by Reshi and last, Amber and Shiro.
Before Amber and the child left, the old woman looked up. "Amber..." She spoke quite stern. "From what I can tell... that boy has a lot of power of mako. It is critical that you take good care of this boy...."

Amber smiled as her idea was accepted. Perfect. she would have the forest at nights to run around if she liked, and they;d be far enough away from ShinRa to be safe. And Shiro would get good care there.
A new home and 16,000 gil. what could Reshi ever need with all that money? ...mmm he supposed most of it would go to their newest edition to the 'family'. He waved to his employer before following Mos outside.
Amber paused at the thershold, then she turned around. "A mother always takes care of her child. don;t you know that?" She turned around and walked away. She would take good care of her boy.

The old woman nodded. Not all mothers took care of their children... but seeing who Amber acted, she knew the boy would be safe... and the world safe from his power. She looked at the man who came into the room after they left and was handed a folder, filled with the pictures. Slowly she opened the folder and looked at the gruesome and detailed pictures.
What did they want to learn from these children?
Mos yawned as he headed to the house. Well, it seemed like that mission was worth it, even if he would never want to do it ever again.

"Well, guess its time to just kickback and relax!" Reshi said.
~~~
Amber made good on her promise. She took good care of her son.
However, like she suspected, she didn;t raise the boy alone. It had taken the better part of half a year to get the boy to accept Reshi and Mos as parents as well, as people who would take care of him and not harm him.
Even still all three of them had to be casutious about raising their voices when their son was around, as not to scare him too much. Together all three worked at giving the boy an education - less Mos and more so Reshi since the male was the most patient between the three of them. And since Amber was still learnign herself there was not much she could tell the boy.
By exposing the boy to their language more consistently, slowly the boy began to pick up on the words and was able to speak some concise english. though the only words he ever learned were ones they could teach him. Even still, Shiro hated stranger and got shy and quiet or defensive around others he did not know.
As far and his strange energy and pwoers, they did their best to teach Shiro how to control himself and not to use it unless he was truly being threatened.
~~~
Five years. it had been five whole years since they had moved to their new home. Reshi really couldn;t believe it. Well, he couldn;t believe a lot of things about his life. he was still a dare-devil adrenlin whore - same old, same old.
But okay, you know your life is getting weird when you can come home in the middle of the night and see two foxes cuddling in front of the fireplace and be perfectly okay with it! It got even worse when you could tell who was who simply by fur color. Mos was a darker red, substanally bigger and of course, the scar across his eye was a dead give away.
And of coruse, their was Shiro. As far as his blindness went, even though they had - once when the boy had been 8 - convinced him to go to the doctor, the moment his eyes were touched he had flipped, nearly destroying everything in the room.
It was safe to say that they never took him back. There was just nothing they could do. Even if the stithches were removed, what possiblilty was there for the eyes to actually work?
"jeez lovefoxs." Reshi said, walking over the two foxes. "mating season again?" of course he knew it wasn;t. it was the middle of winter. no fox would be in heat in this cold.
Well he hpoed not at least. "where;s Shiro?" he looked around, but the boy wasn;t in sight. in his room maybe?

Unfortunately, Amber had convinced Mos to transform into his fox form more often so he could work on his senses. It would help in future missions.... or something like that. However, since they moved to this peaceful place, they hadn't been called for many jobs. It seemed like Momma Lance was giving them a break to relax and help the boy grow.
She knew what could happen if he didn't get the good attention that he needed. A few years later, Mos had taken Shiro back to the old woman, without Amber knowing. He wanted to know what the old woman did. With her own soft voice, she was able to calm the boy into trusting her as she examined him.
His eyes had indeed been sewed shut... but it wouldn't make a difference if they took out the stitches or not unless they got infected. ShinRa had taken out his eyeballs. She concluded that they wanted to change his eyes so that the mako he was exposed to wouldn't been seen. That was the easiest way to know if someone had mako in them. From this, she wondered if they wanted to use the boy as a weapon or undercover. Obviously, something had gone wrong if they dumped him.
As for the metal bar that was melted into his skin on the back of his neck as easier to figure out. It was old legend that if someone was exposed to mako, the evil power would lay behind their neck. They would cut open a small bit and bleed the person for about a hour. Shiro was much different. The skin of his neck seemed to be ripped off, causing him to have a large scar. The melted the metal over the huge scar to again, hide the small hints of mako.
The bar didn't do a good job at hiding the horrendous scar. The metal did have a 'V' in beaded into it. It seemed like the boy's real name began with it.
Once Amber found out that Mos had brought the boy to be examined, he was given the silent treatment for a week and wasn't allowed to get near the boy. She took him to the Mideel doctor who got no where but they did get a bill.... for the damages.
That night, the male fox lifted his head as he was walked over. His body twisted and turned as he formed back into a human and grabbed a pair of boxers. DAMN! It was freezing! "Yea, Shiro is in his room. He's not too excited for school tomorrow."
The government of Mideel found out that an eleven year old boy was not getting the education that he needed. He told Amber that he needed the boy in school.
He yawned as he sat down on a beaten up couch. "And no, mating season for foxes is in the fall, you should know that by now~~~" He joked.
