gee, it's a slow posting day... nothing but RP's since around 9 yesterday... so i figured i'd better do something about it... i'm going to tell you all about the fun i had in NYC... now i'll admit, i've said many things about how i dislike the city... all cities in fact, but when it comes down to it, there's always something to do there... so i dragged my little bro to wander around... fully intending to go, eat lunch and maybe buy a $10 watch off a street vendor (no such luck... all ladies watches...) but instead, upon wandering past the richard roger's theatre, i noticed there was a 3pm showing of Movin' Out... the Musical based on the songs of Billy Joel... well, being the Billy Joel fan that i am, and having a lot of time to kill, i wandered in to inquire as to the price... much to my dismay, there were only 70 and $100 seats left... then, the ticket man asked me "are you a student?" to which i promptly replied "why yes, yes i am!", remembering from my theatre days that they often reserved seats for students at a low price... the seats sucked... but at least you got to see the musical... well i handed him my student ID, which, as BCSI is a highly technical school full of graphic arts equipment, was a simple piece of card-stock with the school name and my ID number and parking permit number and naught else.... not even my name... he looked at the card and looked at me... as if to say "is this some kind of joke?" ... i half expected him to laugh in my face and say "that'll be $200" but instead he just sighed and told me "60"... $60 for a pair of tickets! this was amazing! i should have gone to other theatres, as this was not high on my list of shows to see... but instead i handed the man my credit card... still shaking his head he quickly rang up the bill and printed the tickets... as i'd expected, the seats were terrible... front row... now, front row seats are amazing things at sporting events... the most sought after seats at concerts... but at a musical, they just plain suck... you can't see much that's happening down-stage... and whenever there's an actor or actress lying on the floor(which is suprisingly often...), they are all but lost from view... but at least we got to see it.. and i could afford to eat for the rest of the week too! when we finally got to see the show, much to my dismay, it turned out to be more closely related to a ballet than a musical... there was no speaking, and a lot of dancing... often it felt as tho the actors and (more importantly) the actresses were in my lap... as they were a mere foot away... so close did they come to the stage that i was very nearly kicked in the face by a hippie... quite a startling sight... but all in all, the show was great... the music was awesome (tho sometimes the singing sounded a little strained (can u blame him?? 2 shows a nite for the last 3 nites....)) and the dancing was fantastic... and, while there was no speech, the actors still managed to portray excellent, believable emotions, both through the dancing and through facial expressions... oh... and the girl who played Judy was HOT!!
