Tay glared at him defiantly, "yeah yeah," he helped Sage to his feet, "try..." he whispered to Sage.

Sage grasped his blade and leaned up against it for a minute, trying to catch his breath. Suddenly he heard a whip crack and pain ran down his back. He winced as he fell down on one knee. Blood ran down his back. He sighed and pushed himself up and started to slash down more stalks.
The man on horseback snickered and started to leave them.

The man turn the horse around and glared at Tay. "What did you say slave!?" He moved towards them and held the whip up. "Would you like some of this boy!?" He slung it towards Tay but it was stopped. Marx looked at the man and frowned. "Don't you treat them like this. They are humans too..."
The man frowned as he pulled back his whip and went on his way.

Marx nodded and left them.
That night, Sage laid down in the tub. The warm water burn his new slash mark. His eyes looked up at the ceiling as he listen to his master talk to one of the nurses that lived on the plantation.
The nurse sighed. "Master Marx...I'm sorry but Sage is quite ill...I'm afraid that he'll die within the next few days...."

Tay sighed staring out the window of there room. he looked up suddenly hearing die and Sage in the same sentence and his eyes widened, "WHAT?!"

Sage closed his eyes. Tears ran down his cheeks. "No...i can't leave Tay..." He coughed up blood and looked at his skin. It was starting to look yellow. he frowned. "I will get better..."

Marx turned and frowned. "He has sun poison. There is no cure for it...he's dying from the inside out. I'm sorry...if Sage does pass away...you may gain your freedom."

The nurse walked up to the boy and put her hand on his shoulder. "You two come from a very damp and rainy town...where the sun didn't shine very much. Now that you are exsposed to the sun everyday...your body acts different...Sage's body didn't adapt very well...so he has gone ill."

Marx sighed as he pointed down the hall. "Go up those stairs and to your right...there is a room that has a few baths in it. He's there, cleaning his slash marks." He felt terrible to bring such bad news to Tay.
