More jagged rocks pushed out of the ground, making bridges and slopes towards the field so the fauna could escape. There had never been so much action around this area until these benders came around. They said that having the Avatar around was a gift and punishment and now he knew why. Still, they needed to all work together to get this fire out. If it got out of control, it would spread and end up down into the village.
Ventus nodded as Soran came up with an idea and followed him quickly. However, he was also quick to realize that airbending was an art that involved a lot of... movement in the body. With his fresh wound, he instantly paused in pain as he was going to mock Soran's attempt. Helpless eyes looked up at the twister, seeing the amount of water it was pulling from the man-made trench. All he could do.. was help Soran gain more. He rushed over to the bank as fast as he could and all he could to was swirl his arms together, taking in a deep breath and suddenly pulled his hands to his mouth and blew out. A strong gust of wind shot right down into water, making more of it get sucked into Soran's twister. It became larger and pushed out more water, the flames around them clearing up quickly.

The blonde panted as he rushed back towards the forest, following the bender-made stream as he did so, but he hesitated some as he saw the two airbenders working together, creating a torrent of water to flow up and over the forest and systematically moving further and further into the forest as more and more of the flames died down under the water. Braig and Terra had managed to even create the trench around the fire in a fine circle, preventing the ground fire from spreading - though from the trees tops, there was still a danger.
But it seemed they had it all under control.
Roxas continued to breath heavily, looking down at his measly little pail of water, his shoulders slumping as he realized how useless he was. Had Axel been right...? Was his whole goal truly... truly impossible? He couldn't have put out this fire alone; but in just a few moments four benders were doing all the work in the fraction of the time.
"Yiiii!!!" Blue eyes opened, hearing the faint, panicked sound in the forest. What...? He stood and listened, and when he heard the faint call again, he suddenly lifted the bucket over his head, water sloshing as it covered him and he jumped over the stream and hurried into the burning forest.
The smoke stung his eyes and the air was thick and hard to breath in, forcing him to crouch lower to the ground. The heat was almost unbearable, making sweat drip from his skin. "Hello?!" He called, "Anyone here?!" He hesitated, listening for the voice again. At first, he didn't... and just as he was about to turn, thinking it as his imagination... he heard it again. "iiip!"
He squinted, blinking away some tears as he continued on, being careful to avoid the burning branches, getting closer to the noise. He suddenly saw it, just down a small incline. A medium-sized animal squirming and struggling under a tree that was starting to burn. Blue eyes widened, recognizing it's features. A raptor lion!
It was mostly lion, but could stand on two paws. Like a raptor, it's orange and red mane stuck up behind it and it's body was thin but it's legs powerful. From there it was lion like; full of bright orange and white tufts of fur, large paws and powerful claws.
But this one had one legs caught under the tree. And if it wasn't freed soon, it would be burned to death. Roxas frowned, before he hurried down into the clearing; his presence was noticed immediately and the creature started to growl. The blonde rose his hands, "Hey... calm down... I'm just here to help." He stalked over carefully but as he drew near, the feline snapped at him, making him stumble backwards. He frowned, before hurrying around the other end of the tree and coming up behind the lion. He then drew his swords and then he lifted them high.
SLASH. SLASH.
A section of the tree came lose. "YIP!" Came a loud call and the lion was free and as quickly as it was there it was gone, rushing off into the burning forest - hopefully to safety. Raptor Lions were said to be very intelligent creatures though, so he wasn't worried. "YOU'RE WELCOME!" Roxas yelled after it, before coughing behind his hand. He had to get out of here.
...If only he knew which way to go.

"RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAA!" A roar filled the air over the sound of crackling fire, making chills run down the benders who were close by. It was Shesha, how was seeing the destruction that the fire was doing and the amount of fauna that were fleeing from it thanks to the benders making it safer. Her eyes glared down at Axel before her tail slammed into him again, making him stumble forward. "FINE!" He suddenly called, glaring back at her before walking towards the woods.
Emerald eyes looked around, hearing the crackles and sizzling as the fire was put out. Still, it was spreading and smoldering, taking the world down around it. He heard a crackle from behind him, knowing that Shesha was growling at him. He had never heard her so angry before and he realized that... he had gone too far. He let out a sigh. His arms spread out wide and came back in. He inhaled, making a gathering motion, the fire around the forest suddenly pulling together. His legs spread and his arms circled in a large motion over his chest, the fire pulling back and pressing against damp trees that had already been extinguished. The firebender was collecting the wild fire he had made and as it became suddenly intense...
He stood up and pushed a leg back, his arms locking before they pulled to look like a block stance and suddenly... the forest fire went out.
Ashes burned to the ground and the sound of steam and water was all that was left to hear. The benders stopped dead in their tracks, seeing that the light around them, the intense heat and the fear... was all gone. What had happened? The young air master slowly relaxed and stood the best he could, gripping his sides. "Is everyone alright!?"

The staff stopped spinning and Soran relaxed his arms, panting hard as he looked around. The heat had faded some, though it still stuck to the burnt trees like a fog, making the area still overly hot. He rubbed his forehead, wiping away some of the sweat and glanced back. "I'm okay... are you?!" He called, before hurrying over, helping his friend to sit down and rest.
Terra looked around and frowned, unsure precisely what had happened... but since the fire was out...
He hit his heel down on the rock and lifted his arms up, and the earth rose were the trench had been made, becoming the riverside once more so that no more water would flow into the forest. They couldn't risk hurting the downs downstream but lessening their water flow. He and his uncle crossed the river again and walked into the forest, finding Soran kneeling over Ventus who seemed to be in pain.
"What happened?" Terra asked as he approached them, but the Avatar just glanced at him and shrugged before looking over his shoulder and calling to the trees, "Axel?!"

"Tcccch..." Ventus whimpered as he was helped down onto a soaked stump. His hand slowly pulled from his side, revealing a fresh red stain soaking through the bandages. He must of split it open from his running and bending... and now he was really paying for it. It didn't seem to want to heal at all. He wondered if it was possible that his body was slow at healing it because he had never been so wounded before. Still, he looked up slightly, seeing the earthbenders rushing over. He had glad that they were alright but he felt rather shameful in front of Terra about showing his pain. The brunette was so strong and brave and... Ventus thought he was the same way too until now.
There was sound of sloshing that made everyone look for the sound though, seeing the muggy silhouette of a tall man with crazy hair. His arms were crossed and his face dull with piercing narrow eyes. The look only infuriated the elder earthbender but before he could snap at the young man for nearly burning down these woods, there was a faint call. Everyone tensed, realizing that there was someone missing and shockingly, Axel was the first to react. He was suddenly gone in the fog, leaving the benders by their selves again. Ventus let out a soft sigh, his body relaxing but a bit too much as his weight was pushed against the stump. Being broken down and softened by water, half of it suddenly crumbled and he fell onto the ground.
"AAAAAAAAAAH!!!"
He cried in pure agony, his hand gripping the wound as tears welled from the side of his eyes.
The firebender walked quickly over the soaked and dead land, getting into the area where the fire was the hottest. The heat and lack of oxygen didn't seem to even phase him as he looked around before seeing slight movement. He quickly rushed over to the blonde who was against the mud, gasping some as it looked like he was trying to pull off his clothes to cool down. Lanky, though strong arms wrapped around the boy and pulled him up, helping him get to fresher air.

"That doesn't look very good..." Terra said with a frown, seeing the red staining Ventus' side. The wound had broken open again. Before they could do much though, there was a call from Soran. "Hey!" The Avatar call, standing over a forgotten pail and looking about. "W-Where's Roxas?!"
There was some hesitance, and then suddenly the red-head rushed into the forest. "Axel?!" Soran yelled but the firebender was already gone. He frowned and slamming down his staff, about to take flight to look by the air when he heard the sound of a crack - and Ventus's yell. "Ventus?!" He called and looked back seeing Terra already at his side. Even from here he could see the red staining the airbender's clothes. "Shit, the wound split open more!" He heard Terra curse and it would of been surprising hearing such foul language from the teen... if he hadn't met his father that is.
Roxas didn't know the fire had stopped.
He had stepped into the part of the forest not graced by water, and even if the flames were gone, the heat and the smoke were not, creating a thick fog all around. It was dizzying, the effect it had on his mind and body, and he felt uneasy as he walked around; lost. Hadn't he come just down this hill here? Or maybe is was through these trees there?
Blue eyes blinked in the smoky fog, coughing behind his had, and his muscles trembled, finding it harder and harder to work with less oxygen about. And if it were possible, it seemed to get hotter. Like... like he was on fire!
Shaky hands reached up, gripping his jacket and trying to tug it off and get away from the fire - and at the same time, his legs crumpled and he fell, right into a splash of nice, cool mud. He shuddered against the ground, shifting about, uncoordinated as he tried to get cool.
The next thing he knew, he was being pulled up, the sound of a drum murmuring against his ear. The air around him became cooler and he breathed in great gasps of air as the smoke thinned out, coughed as he sucked in the smoke as well. He felt dizzy and sick, and unsure of what was going on even as Axel brought him back to the newly made stream.

At the pained scream, Braig looked over the boy before crouching down next to him. He quickly pulled out a pocket knife and cut away the dressing, seeing the problem instantly as the bandage was peeled off. Pus. And lots of it. "It's infected..." He frowned, hearing the boy whimper. It was easy to tell that he was trying to deal with the pain but the way it looked, even he would think it would cause an awful lot of hurt. Looked like these air benders wouldn't be leaving the village anytime soon... "We have to get him back to the villa---" The man spoke, about to pick the blonde up but instead, his nephew was quick to pull him right off the ground with ease.
All the while, dark, pained blue eyes looked at his best friend, as if he was trying to apologize for his weakness. How could he be a great master and guardian... if a little cut was making him so lame? He felt like a little child in Terra's arms and the brunette didn't hesitate getting back to the village. However, Braig and Soran went the opposite way, looking for Roxas and Axel who had gone missing.
It was to their surprise that they found the two by the edge of the made trench that was close to the field. The air here was easy to breath but it didn't seem like Roxas was getting enough. A piece of Axel's clothing was pressed up against Roxas's mouth, making them hear the gasping and laboring breaths of the blonde. When he exhaled, Axel loosened his grip and when he inhaled, the cloth was pushed against his mouth harder. Before Soran rushed over to confront the redhead, Braig grabbed the young boy's shoulder and held him back. "He's trying to filter the air that gets into Roxas's lungs. The cloth stops Roxas from gasping and possibly choking and vomiting. If oxygen if given to him in small amounts, he can get out more smoke than pushing it back in from quick breaths."
As Braig spoke, his words were proven true. The red piece of cloth was slowly pull away and the labored breathing soon diminished.

Soran frowned, watching as Terra took his friend away, looking down towards the ground; ironically somehow he felt this was all HIS fault. He was the one who ran to that town where they met Roxas - and now he was the one who sat Ventus down on the stump that broke under him. He hadn't meant to hurt him worse...
Speaking of Roxas... He glanced over as he saw the Earthbender hurrying into the forest before frowning and following after, the two of them looking around for the red-head or the blonde. The crossed paths with them easily - and then Soran's eyes widened seeing Axel trying to... to choke Roxas?! "Hey-" He cried about to rush forward; but then Braig was dragging him back, explaining to him what the red-head was doing. The Avatar frowned, glancing at the wiser man before looking towards the two... and then he smiled faintly as the blonde seemed to calm and his breathes started to come easier.
Blue eyes fluttered open, the fog in his own mind slowly clearing. He was hot still, his skin still sweating, but it was no longer as terrible. He looked around he noticed the glow of the fire was out all around, though wifts of smoke still lifted from the branches. How long had he been in the forest? He swallowed hard, finding his throat very sore and rolled his eyes, looking at the man who was hovering over him. Red hair... Axel? "Wh..." He rasped. "What... h-happened?"

OOC: I wonder how many times Roxas has called Axel an 'Egotistical sonofabitch'. xDDD
Every step Terra made sent a stabbing pain through Ventus. His wound was now exposed and every movement his skin made caused the pain jolt through him like electricity. By the time they reached Braig's small home, Ventus had almost blacked out from the pain. The door was opened and the bull-wolf's ears were instantly up. Though he must of been excited to see his master, he realized that something was wrong and stayed put. The bald boy was laid back down onto his cot and even if he wanted to curl up, Terra didn't let him.
Instead, he left his side for a moment or so before coming back with some items. One was just a loose piece of cloth that was placed in Ventus's mouth, making his whimpering muffled. He was warmed that... what he was about to do was really going to hurt. A lot. His infected wound was cleaned and rinsed, making the sound of whimpering grow louder. It was patted dry and suddenly blue, spiraled eyes widened at the sight of a needle. He was sewing up a piece of clothing.... RIGHT!?
"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!" His eyes closed tightly, warm tears running down his cheek again as he felt instant pain rush through his waist and across his body as Terra started to hand sew the wound shut.
Emeralds looked down into sapphire and the cloth was slowly pulled away completely, allowing Roxas to get 100% intake of the oxygen around him. "We battled with fire and it won.... sort of." He explained, making it seem as if they had actually battled. If the blonde had all his strength, he was sure he would of been slugged but he didn't. "You should relax in the water and cool down. You might get dehydrated and overheated." He knew in the back of his head that his own unnatural body temperature wasn't helping the blonde any.
Braig could only shake his head at the response Axel had given. Of course he would make it seem that way... It wasn't uncommon for the Fire Nation people to turn things around for their own image. He looked down at Soran who was still watching the two with concern, not believing that this boy was from the Nation. Maybe it wasn't the people... but the way they were brought up. Air Benders had always been good people.... "You know... there are other ways of getting to the Fire Nation than on the back of some arrogant dragon's back.

OOC: Roxas: Too many times to count.
Blue eyes were dark as he worked mechanically, pushing the skin around the wound so the pus oozed out before cleaning it again and again until the blood flowed red and clean, trying not to concentrate on the fact he was about to sew up a live person. He wasn't going to tell Ventus that this was the first time he would be doing do on a human. The only time he had ever done so before was on his neighbor's pet Leopard-Cow who suffered a terrible gash when she got in a tussle with their Coyote-Buffalo.
He couldn't hold in a wince though, as he started the first stitch, the sound of Ventus's muffled screams.
There was a low, long whimper, before Atteris slid across the ground on his three usable paws - his four bound securely so as not to jar it while the sprain healed. A warm tongue slurped along the bald airbender's spasming fingertips, trying to offer some comfort as his master worked.
Though his master was very quick and it took him seemingly no time at all to stitch up the entire wound, for Ventus is must of seemed like hours.
Blue eyes blinked slowly, taking in that bit of information very sluggishly for his mind was still recovering. Something seemed wrong about Axel's statement. There was a fire... His eyebrows furrowed though and he shook his head, knowing he would figure it all out soon enough. But he quickly became disagreeable when the other told him to get in the water. "I'm fine." He grumbled, though it was an obvious lie with the way his voice rasped and his skin sweat.
Soran watched the exchange between the two very curiously. Yesterday they had been nothing but hostile; today Axel saved Roxas' life. It was as if the next day was a reverse mirror - a reflection that showed the opposite of what was there.
Yesterday they hated each other.
....Today.... well... today was different though the Avatar couldn't precisely pin down the word to describe it.
He didn't have time to ponder it though before Braig spoke beside him, gently nudging him into the idea that he did not need to travel with Axel at all. His look became thoughtful, before he mumbled in response, "The Monks taught me... that meeting people can be like Earthquakes. Some are gentle and rolling, the meeting uncertain and stumbling, but easy and harmless. And others are like the clashes of great mountains coming together; terrible and destructive at first but ending soon enough." He paused and chuckled softly, "When I first heard the analogy, I asked them if the clashing mountains is of enemies meeting and everything should be done to prevent these meetings but they said no, that I thought of it as if it were a simple black-and-white analogy when I missed all the colors. Like the land does not know when it will shift, neither do the mountains realize that one day it is there destiny to be beside one another; but, if given the chance, they will not destroy each other but learn to stand beside one another in tranquility. It is when the land splits that it means an enemy is upon you; because an enemy is not one who brings one together... but tears you apart."
The Avatar crossed his arms and cast a sideways glance to the elder male, "Do you understand what I mean?"

It did not seem so long for the pain was so intense and unbearable that the young air bender quickly blacked out. He no longer felt the needle shredding through his skin nor felt the warm saliva on his fingers from the bull-wolf. All their was.... was darkness. It was instant, like a peaceful nap but when the blue eyes slit open, the tired looking face waking up, he could see that the house was dark with only a few dim lanterns giving off light. How long had he been out?
"Mnnn...." He moaned softly, is senses slowly coming to him. He now knew where he was; on a cot in the house of two very talented earthbenders. His arms were wrapped around... something warm... and furry? His eyes narrowed, trying to see just what he was holding onto and quickly realized he was snuggling a very large bull-wolf who was resting beside him and didn't seem to mind. He tilted his head some, hearing the faint voice behind him. I was one that took him awhile to remember.
Vetus didn't want to move too much, not wanting to stir the best laying next to him but he realized there was a shadow over his torso and he couldn't help but lie on his back. The wolf grumbled a bit but found a new position, placing is head on the boy's chest and closing his eyes again. Spiral eyes below a detailed tattoo looked up, seeing a brunette glancing back at him. They exchanged small smiles before Terra turned his full attention to the boy. "We..." He mumbled before clearing his throat, "We were taught that... all good things have a darkness in them and all evil things have a good. I have to wonder... if the good thing in your father... was having you as his kin."
In a field near the village, a small fire was ablaze and a large creature blocking the light cast a grand shadow over the forest behind it. There was a low growl when the shadow moved, flickered and glowed in spots but the two humans in the light did not see it. A iron bowl was handed down towards a young boy that was leaning against the red scaled dragon. There was already an iron cup next to his side, half full of fresh spring water. "Here, eat up." The tall man spoke before crouching down so he could be level with the sitting blonde. Dark, exotic eyes looked into the reluctant blue but the bowel was offered again. It was a delicious smelling stew made from local flora and founa. "Unless you're a vegetarian too..."
Not far away, inside the dark forest, two figures stood still in front of the man made trench. "Now... as I showed you, push the trench together slowly to close it." Braig spoke softly as Soran got into stance. He figured that the airbenders would be staying until Soran's guardian was well enough to proceed with his role. It would be wasteful for Soran to sit about and from what Braig had gathered, the Avatar was already very wise for his age. He would need to learn all the elements soon enough and this trench needed to be closed so that the village down the river could regain their good amount of water.
He watched Soran concentrate and move, smiling when he saw a little bit of the bank move. "Very good Soran. It is remarkable that you have been able to do this so quickly because I know Earthbending is the opposing bending art to Airbending. Earthbenders require a firm root in the ground, while Airbenders are constantly moving. This proves your high discipline and willingness to adapt. Do not worry if you can't do more. Practice makes perfect and I will aid you if you'd like."

It was probably for the best that Ven passed out; It made Terra's job easier knowing he was sleeping through the pain. After he had sewed the boy up completely he cleaned the area throughly to prevent further infection then wrapped it up gently then kept cool clothes pressed against the wound spot, to keep the swelling down.
The once blonde slept well through the day and didn't wake up until the evening. Terra, in fact, was reading a book while he waited but when he heard the boy stir he stood and wandered over to him, offering him and his pet a fond smile. However, he blinked when the other said something... very... touching.
The brunette looked away, chuckling softly, his cheeks tinting some. "Heh, or marrying my mother." He shook his head, looking again at the boy. "My father really isn't all that bad. But enough of that; would you like something to eat?"
"No, I am not." Roxas finally said, taking the bowl carefully. Whatever happened to not letting benders take care of him? "The Ari Nomads are because they are taught all life is sacred but down in the villages we are a little less.... strictly taught."
He stirred the spoon some looking down at the food before finally mumbling softly, "...Thanks Axel." After the many hours of recovering, he had slowly remembered what truly happened. The fire and his stupidity of running into the fire. He very well realized, had Axel not been there.... he would of died.
He had never owed a bender anything, but he seemed he owed this one his life.
Soran breathed carefully as he concentrated on moving the rocks and closing up the trench, finding it harder then he expected. "Well... I have learned all the elements countless times before." He responded but smiled, "And I've got a great teacher." He hesitated and let his body rest, allowing Braig to take over.
"Did you ask Terra about coming along with us?" The Avatar asked curiously, not having forgotten yesterday's conversation.

Ventus gave a shallow nod, not really knowing Terra's mother well. Actually, he had never even seen her before but he was sure she was nice. At least he hoped so... He smiled at the offer though and his nod strengthened. "S-sure, if you don't mind. I feel rather horrible. You've been so kind to take us in and make us food and drink, tending to my wounds and keeping us from the cold. I know... people don't normally do things just for the sake of repayment but I do feel like I should owe you something, Terra..." He commented as the brunette walked off. He slowly started to run his fingers through the bull-wolf's fur, feeling how soft it was. He couldn't help but look at his own tattoo on his hand, wondering if he really deserved them.
He laid there for a bit, listening to the soft sounds of Terra making something to eat. He quickly realized that he heard no other sound... meaning they were alone together. The bald Air nomad looked over, watching Terra silently before speaking. "Would you mind tell me about yourself? This is the first time Soran or I have left the Air Temple and we're not very aware of other's way of life... except for the well known spunk of the Fire Nation."
"You're welcome." The redhead put plainly, grabbing a bowl for himself before walking to another spot and leaning against Shesha to eat it. From the distance he made, it was clear that this bender was not very sociable. His eyes were glued to the fire as he ate his stew, the flames making his green eyes flicker. Every now and again when Shesha growled, he placed a hand on her, his long, skinning fingers massaging her scales to ease her.
"Heh, why thank you, Avatar Soran. It is an honor to hear those words come from your mouth." He thanked before slowly bending the trench, making walls slowly fall and form, bringing the water back to the main river without it overflowing. His concentration did not 'bend' however when he heard the question. "I did ask him to think about it, young Soran and he said he would. I know there is a lot of tension in his family about him bending so it will be a large step for him to confront them with what he chooses. I have faith in him though and I know he will think over it wisely."

"Don't worry about it." Terra brushed off as he got up to go make the other a meal. "It was just the right thing to do." He started to bustle about the small cooking space, looking for some fresh vegetables and started to cut them up when he did.
He glanced back as the other asked the question and hummed, looking back down at the vegetables. "Well... I don't really know what to say." He admitted, "I'm a little odd myself, even for an earthbender." He chuckled some but when Ven inquired, he clarified.
"I like to read." He said, "I've read all sorts of stories and historical accounts and even bending techniques. ....Not to mention the type of company I keep." He indicated the bull-wolf happily dozing on the blonde's chest. "They are normally aggressive and untamable creatures you know. Though, he seems rather attached to you." He chuckled.
If Roxas was okay or not about the silence, he didn't say a word or indicate anything that made it obvious. Of course, considering he had been alone for many months, it would not be surprising if he too did not enjoy his solitude. He just went along eating silently, feeling weary from the long day.
